ICE THUGS

2020

In the Southwestern desert, the lack of water creates a sense of urgency for all; human and non-human alike. Climate change is apparent in the displacement of people, and the proximity to the U.S/Mexico border highlights the crisis. In ICE THUGS, the official target of the Department of Homeland Security is reimagined as an intervention in the landscape; a reflection of the militarized zone and agents. The landscape itself presents a harsh and often deadly trek for those that attempt to cross the border. In this instance, the conditions of the desert are weaponized and water is seen as a threat to border patrol agents who have been known to destroy water gallons.
